Why do phone cases turn yellow?
When you buy a transparent case for your mobile, what you want is for it to last as long as possible and for that device to really protect you. But unfortunately, in the end it ends up turning yellow.
Many consider that this is due to the heat of the mobile, to stains, or even to our own hands and fingers that stain them. But it is certainly not like that.
You should know that all transparent phone cases are made from a material that is actually yellow. Yes, yes, the yellow that you now have in your hands. When they are working on it, they add a blue tint to it, which is what causes it to lose that yellow color and become a transparent piece, which is what they mold to turn into covers.
Over time, sun, heat, etc. that material degrades and loses the tint that gave it transparency. In turn, that yellowish tone appears that makes us think that it is dirty or deteriorated (in fact, with a little more time it is common for it to become weak due to degradation and that we can even break it ourselves with little effort) .
In other words, it's not that you have a dirty case, but it returns to the original color by losing the tint that made it transparent.
Remedies to clean a yellowish case
There are many methods to clean a yellowed case. That they work… that is already more difficult. Nevertheless, we are going to leave you here the different ways for you to try and thus see if in your house it is possible to clean and leave, if not 100% transparent, in an adequate percentage.
Soap and water
It is perhaps the first option. You have to remove the mobile (very important) and put it in the sink with water. Don't do it with hot water because you can say goodbye to the cover. Best water of the time.
Now take a brush and a little soap and rub the entire cover to see if that yellow color is removed what's wrong with it. We recommend that you do it a couple of times, that is, you put it in water, take it out, give it the soap, rinse it again, and add soap again. In that second, leave about 5 minutes for it to take effect and then rinse (if the soap has dried you could hit it with the brush and it will come out easily).
Finally, you just have to dry it with a cloth and that's it.
Isopropyl alcohol
They say that this is one of the best remedies to make a yellowish case transparent. But you have to try it to see if it really is. What you do is take a cloth and dip it in isopropyl alcohol to rub it all over the case.
Another option, especially if it is very yellow, is submerge it and leave it for a long time and then rub, leave for another hour and rub again.
It can take up to 24 hours and then you just have to rinse and dry it. Depending on the material of your cover, it may or may not deteriorate, so keep that in mind.
Bleach
Bleach is always something we use to remove stains that we find around the house. And surely it has ever occurred to you that, if it removes the yellow stains from the bathroom, it should also be able to remove those from the cover.
It is one of the remedies used, but it is convenient to reduce it with water to avoid damaging the material of the cover itself. You would have to bathe it in this mixture, leave it for a few minutes and then rinse to dry and see if it has worked. The minimum you should leave it taking effect is one hour, but if you leave it overnight, much better, and even if you rub it with a toothbrush halfway through.
Baking soda and lemon (optional, vinegar)
Another option, which is also used to remove dried blood stains (so you can see how strong it can be) is to use baking soda and lemon. You can also add vinegar to further enhance its effect, but it all depends on you.
Take a tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with the juice of a lemon. If you use the vinegar, put a tablespoon and stir everything. Now, with a toothbrush, brush the paste on top of the transparent cover and you have to let it act for a while (several hours) and then remove it and see if it has really worked.
Stain remover
Another of the methods used to clean a yellowish cover is the one offered in supermarkets. Namely, stain remover products you can try and see if they are effective for transparent mobile phone cases.
As there are many products (for clothes, for the kitchen...) pYou can try some different ones to see if that yellow color goes away.. What we do not recommend is that you mix at the same time because it can be harmful to your own health.
Do they really work?
We could tell you yes if you leave them long enough for them to achieve it, but in a XatakaAndroid publication they did the test by subjecting each cover to two different methods to test if any of them returned transparency to this material. Y the results were not satisfactory at all because the shade of yellow that the covers had did not really change much.
With more time it is possible that something else will be noticed. But keep in mind that yellow represents a degradation of the material (as well as the loss of the tint) so we could think that only that tint (which is almost impossible to find) would return the transparency to the cover.
Unfortunately, if you want a "neat" and transparent case, you will have to buy a new one.
