how to add a contact to whatsapp

WhatsApp has become one of the messaging applications that everyone uses. On all continents. However, there are still some who have difficulties using it correctly and aspects such as adding a contact to WhatsApp resist them.

Do you want it not to happen to you? Then take a look at the different ways that exist to add them and then decide which is the best option for you. Go for it?

Add contacts to WhatsApp through your agenda

One of the first ways you have to add contacts to WhatsApp is through your agenda. You see, imagine that a person gives you their phone number. Or he makes a loss for you to have it. At that time you, on your mobile, save it as a new contact.

It turns out that person has WhatsApp. Does it mean that now you have to go to WhatsApp to save it too? Well no. Automatically, when you save a contact in the phonebook, WhatsApp also scans and, if that contact has WhatsApp enabled, if you are going to send a message to a person you will see that it already appears among your contacts (well, sometimes it can take up to 10 minutes to appear).

And how to add contacts to the agenda? You have two options:

On the one hand, click on the contacts application that will appear on your mobile, then click on the + icon to add a new contact. And there fill in the information you want and click save.

On the other hand, and sometimes the only option on some mobiles, is through the phone icon. In fact, if you have lost a phone, or you have a phone that you want to keep, you can hit the three vertical points that appear and Add to a contact. There you can Create a new contact and the number will automatically appear, you just have to put the name and save.

And, automatically, it will also appear on WhatsApp.

Add a contact to WhatsApp without putting it in the agenda

Sometimes it may be that you want to add a contact but not have it in the agenda, for example because it is the WhatsApp of a company that you have requested something from, or for other reasons.

In these cases you could contact him without having to put it in the agenda, and neither use the mobile, or yes. Only in this case we are going to use the browser (web or mobile).

You have to open the browser and put the following URL: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=PPNNNNNNNNN. Here, you have to change PP for the country code (34 in the case of Spain) and the N would be the phone number.

As soon as you hit enter (on the computer) or the follow arrow (on the mobile) a WhatsApp Web (on the computer) or the WhatsApp app (on the mobile) will open so you can chat with that person.

Add contacts to WhatsApp through a QR

This is an unknown way to add contacts to WhatsApp, but quite effective, for example, for business cards that you can make, or for websites where you don't want to give your phone number directly but you can contact them via WhatsApp.

What is done? The first thing is to open WhatsApp on your mobile. Give the three vertical points and in that menu go to settings.

If you look closely, a small image of your WhatsApp photo will appear at the top and next to it, in small, a QR. If you press it, it will get bigger, but it will also show you two tabs: one for My Code (so others can add you this way) and the next one that says Scan Code.

If you go there it will show you a small tutorial in which it will tell you that it is going to scan someone else's WhatsApp QR code. Hit OK and you will have the rear camera of the mobile activated to scan the QR of that person. As soon as you do, it will be added to your contacts directly.

Add a contact from iPhone

Now we are going to teach you the classic method of adding contacts to WhatsApp. We start with iPhone first, in case you have that phone. In this case, there are several ways to do it, so we will tell you about them all:

  • The first thing, in all of them, is to open WhatsApp.
  • Now, in all, go to the chat tab.
  • Here it differs a bit. And it is that if the contact is new, you have to click on “new chat” and then on “new contact to add it and start typing”.
  • But, if you have already chatted with them but you had not saved it, you just have to go to that chat and click on the top bar to see the chat information. There you can save it (by clicking Create new contact).
  • Now, what if you want to add people from a group? It is also very easy.

You just have to open the group and click on the message of the person you want to save (which will appear as a phone number). Among the options that it gives you, you have one that is "Add to contacts" and you can create a new contact or add an existing one (in case you had two phone numbers and you didn't have that one, or you had changed your phone).

Add contacts on Android

Just like we've done in iPhone, let's do it on Android. In this case we also have several options and all of them start by opening WhatsApp on your mobile and clicking on the Chats tab.

Now, if you have not spoken with that person before, you will have to go to the "New chat" icon and there to "new contact".

In case you have spoken with that person but you had not saved it at the time, you will only have to go to that person's chat (which will come out with the phone number) and touch on that number (at the top) . A chat information panel will open and one of the options you will have is to “Save”.

Finally, if what you want is to add group contacts, you just have to press the message of that contact you want and wait for a submenu to appear. There, choose “Add to contacts” or “Add to existing contact”.

In reality, and as you have seen, there are many ways to add contacts to WhatsApp, not just adding them to the calendar (which is usually what is done by default). This way you keep your list of contacts cleaner and leave the ones you are interested in on WhatsApp. Do you know of any other way to do it?
