Connect the controller via cable
This is perhaps the easiest way you have to connect the PS4 controller to PC. But we understand that it will not be the one you like because it limits you when it comes to moving. And it is that, in the past, the controls were attached to the consoles and there was a maximum distance at which you could get without pulling the console or disconnecting the control.
But in the case of a PC we recommend it because it is a very easy way to connect both elements, the controller and the PC. Also, you're not going to move much either because you have to be looking at the screen so you don't get killed.
We must clarify that we are connecting from Windows. On Linux and Mac the steps may differ, or even cause problems.
In the case of Windows, what you will have to do is the following:
Connect the connection cable between the controller and the PC. If you wonder what cable, it will be the same one you have in the console to connect it to it and charge it. If you look closely, one end will fit snugly into the PS4 controller and the other will go into a USB port. You should do the same on your computer.
If you have Windows 10, you should allow a few seconds for the system to directly recognize that you have just connected a PS4 controller and configure it automatically and quickly. In fact, it may ask you for a few answers at first, but beyond those, the rest will take care of itself. In case you have Windows 7 or 8, it is possible that you should review the configuration or even install a tool such as Controller DS4 to be able to play with the controller on the computer.
Once it's set up, you won't have to do anything else. In fact, you can start playing by directing the characters with the controller (and not with the computer keyboard or mouse).
Connect the controller via bluetooth
This is perhaps the method that you will want the most, taking into account that when you play the Playstation 4 you do not have a cable preventing you from moving. Wirelessly connecting the PS4 controller to the PC is also easy. But you must bear in mind that the main thing is that the computer itself has bluetooth; otherwise, you will not be able to do it like this.
In general, all laptops have it. But not so on desktop computers. Even so, you can always install a tool and buy an accessory to give this system to your computer (and we already tell you that it is quite easy to configure and install everything).
That said, what you are going to need is that the bluetooth is activated, since otherwise the controller will not be able to connect. Make sure that this is the case by going to Settings / Devices. Normally the bluetooth part appears at the top and it will tell you if they are "on" or "off".
Now you will have to click on "Add bluetooth or another device". Hit bluetooth again and the PC will start searching for nearby devices. So you will have to activate the PS4 controller for it to detect it. As soon as it does, a pairing will occur, but it will not be complete until you press the PS button and the Share button on the controller at the same time.
At that time the PC will recognize the controller as wireless and it can be used on the computer.

Of all the controllers that you have, there is no doubt that the Xbox ones are more adapted to the PC (with Windows) and give much less problems. Therefore, another way to connect the PS4 controller to the PC is with a program that makes Windows think that what you are connecting is an Xbox controller and not the PS4 controller.
We are talking about DS4 Controller. This program allows you a much faster and more efficient connection between PS4 and PC, as well as being able to assign actions to the buttons one by one (to adapt them to your game).
In this case, the program does not interfere with the way you connect the controller (whether by cable or bluetooth), but it does make it easier and it works better (without disconnections, without giving you problems).
