How to find diamonds in Minecraft and avoid death

In Minecraft, diamonds are the player's best friend.

Once you find these shiny blue stones, you can use them to craft some of the best items in the game, like a formidable diamond ax or a sturdy diamond breastplate. They can also be used to craft enchanted tables, turntables, and much more. In some cases, villagers may offer you emeralds in exchange for diamonds.

This means that you should probably start mining for diamonds as soon as possible. Although you have to dig deep, diamonds are not that difficult to find, especially if you know where to look. This is where the diamonds are found.

How to find diamonds in Minecraft?

Tools you will need to mine diamonds

Before going to a cave or a mine, you will need the necessary tools.

The most important item is the iron pickaxe. Diamond ore can only be mined with an iron pickaxe or better (gold, diamond, or neterite are best). If you try to mine diamonds with a stone or wooden pickaxe, the block will break but you won't get anything.

You will need at least one iron pickaxe to mine diamonds.

• • Carry a large number of torches with you. The torches will light your way through the mine and make it harder for enemies to catch you. Torches can be made by putting a piece of charcoal on a stick. If you don't find charcoal while digging, burn the wood.

• • You will need food to heal and fight hunger. Any edible food will do, but if you can cook a steak or chicken before you go, go for it: you never know when you might need a health boost.

• • Additional weapons can bail you out in times of need. Although you can use a pickaxe if necessary, a good sword and shield is always better.

You can build these tools as you dig, but don't break and use all of them before you find the diamonds; remember that you will have to make the way back.

Where to dig for diamonds

All Minecraft worlds are layered – think of it like sea level. For example, the sea level in Minecraft is layer 64. The world descends to a level of -64.

Diamonds only appear after level 15, and the deeper you go, the more common they are.

The second part of the code, at the top under "XYZ", is your "Minecraft" coordinates. The value of "Y", or the second number in the list, must be 15 or less to find diamonds.

To get there, find a cave or start digging diagonally. Never dig straight down: if you accidentally dig through the cave ceiling, you could fall into the lava or a huge ravine. As you go, set up torches to light the way and keep an eye on the route.

As you progress you are likely to come across enemies such as spiders, skeletons, zombies and witches. Stay alert and avoid these enemies (you can usually see or hear them before they spot you) or engage them carefully.

If you have to run, use the blocks to build a tower and get to the top. Don't slip and hurt yourself when falling. Or if you're stuck in a dead end, quickly mine the wall and then place blocks to close the exit.

Remember that if you die, you lose everything you have in your inventory. And once an item is dropped, you'll only have a few minutes to retrieve it before it's gone. Unless you fall into the lava; any objects caught in the lava are immediately destroyed.

Lava will become commonplace once you reach a certain depth in Minecraft. Do not try to swim in it.

Once you get to layer 15, keep digging.

At layer 15 you'll enter diamond territory, but keep digging deeper. Diamonds are more common the deeper you dig, so dig as deep as possible for best results.

But remember that diamonds are rare, even at low layers. It may be a long time before you find even one. And of course, there's always the chance that you won't find any diamonds before you have to go home.

But once you find a diamond ore, mine it with an iron pickaxe and claim your prize. Most diamonds are mined in 'veins', meaning several interconnected blocks of diamond ore. Extract all the diamonds you see and move on.

You may find the world's first diamonds in layer 12, a not-so-surprising find considering they start to become more common in layer 12.

How to find diamonds without mining

Although mining is the most reliable way to find diamonds, you can find them already mined in the world.

There is a small chance of finding diamonds in the chests in town. Desert temples and mines can also contain diamonds in their chests.

The most common place to find diamond chests is in buried chests. These are chests buried underground, usually on beaches. Such chests can be found using explorer cards, which in turn can be found on sunken underwater ships.
