How to raise villagers in Minecraft

Even in survival mode, Minecraft gives you enormous control over your world. You can grow forests, blow up mountains, open up new universes… pretty much anything you can do.

Your control extends to the NPCs in the game as well. If you want to make more residents without having to go around looking for a new village, you can breed residents together. It may seem strange, but it is an effective way to increase the population of a city or even create your own city.

Here's how to breed residents in Minecraft, either manually or with the automated breeding machine.

How to raise villagers in Minecraft

If you just need new villagers, breeding them is a pretty quick process. This is what you will need:

• • At least two villagers

• • At least one bed for each villager, plus another bed

• • Food – bread, carrots, potatoes or beets

1. Place the villagers close to each other. The best way to do this is to build a wall around them and lure them inside, or build a structure and move the villagers to it by boat.

quick tipThe objective is for the inhabitants to enter the ship by placing it in front of them and letting them enter it. Once the resident is on the boat, they can get on and "swim" across land or sea. Break the ship to free them.

2. When your residents are stuck in a tight space, arrange beds around them. There must be more beds than residents, since the child they make will also need a bed. And there must be at least two blocks of free space above any bed.

Take your residents to a locked room.

You can continue like this until you have as many residents as you want, just remember that you need more beds than residents. Peasant children "grow up" in 20 minutes after birth.

quick tipYou can create an "automatic" villager breeding system by introducing a farmer into the game. Farmers will give villagers any surplus food they create, increasing their willingness to reproduce. At that point, all you have to do is put down the beds and your villagers will spawn indefinitely.
