Icarus how to cook food

Learn how to cook the food in Icarus in this tutorial, if you are still interested keep reading.

Icarus awaits you with the severe Icarus, the biggest mistake in the history of Humankind. In the search for wealth you will have to explore the area, do some collecting, make your own tools and track the animals. This is how food is made.

How is food cooked in Icarus?

In the world of Icarus, there are various raw berries that you can eat, but they will not be able to fully nourish you. Instead, you need to cook whatever you find (ie the meat) first. Meat can be obtained by hunting wild animals and skinning them.

So you have to light a fire. You will need 8x fiber, 8x stick and 24x stone, materials that are usually found in abundance in starting areas. After making the fire you also have to add fuel: wood, fiber or sticks. Select the raw food you want to cook and after a few seconds it will appear in the unit's inventory slots. Here are some examples:

    • Raw meat - Cooked meat
    • Raw Fish - Cooked fish
    • Corn – Charred Corn
    • Pumpkin – Grilled pumpkin
    • Ice - Water

Note 1.: Cooking food in Icarus is always better than raw food. Cooked options further satisfy hunger and also replenish health and/or stamina, along with other temporary buffs.

Note 2.: There is a level 2 blueprint for the Fireplace, but it contains basically the same recipes that you will see when interacting with the Bonfire.

spoiled food

Raw or cooked food in Icarus spoils over time. This is indicated by a clear outline on the item image, although only one piece of the stack is affected at a time. Spoiled food loses most of its positive properties, so always try to eat cooked food if necessary. The exception to this is when you get a special talent (more on that later).

To prevent it from breaking down, you can craft a contraption called an Ice Box (level 2 and level 15 required). To craft it you will need 40x Wood, 24x Leather, 8x Rope, 8x Iron Ingots and 4x Copper Nails. Materials can be expensive, but it has 10 slots that you can put groceries in.

Kitchen station

Speaking of second-tier items, you can also build a Cooking Station, which requires 8x Fiber, 8x Stick, 24x Stone, and 4x Iron Ingot. It has additional recipes such as the following:

    • Fruit salad – 1x watermelon and 1x wild berries.
    • wild salad – 1 pumpkin and 1 zucchini.
    • creamy corn – 1 animal fat, 1 corn and water.
    • Animal fat – 1x raw meat.

Useful Talents

Lastly, there are some talents that will help you deal with hunger and cooking in Icarus:

Solo:

    • Low maintenance – Reduced oxygen costs, hunger and thirst.
    • Savage Hunter I and II – Increased harvest from hunting.

Survival – Hunting:

    • Fine Butcher I and II – Increased meat production.

Survival – Research:

    • As with the lights off: oxygen, hunger and thirst are reduced at night.

Survival – Cooking/Farming:

    • Natural preservation: slows down the decomposition of food.
    • Lasting Effects – Food effects last longer.
    • Satiating Meals: Food replenishes the hunger scale more quickly.
    • You're Gonna Eat That – Get the ability to eat spoiled food.
    • It's better than you thought – Increase the benefits of eating spoiled food.

This is everything you need to know about cooking in Icarus.
