Valorant – How does the economic system work?

Riot's tactical first-person shooter Valorant has an economy system similar to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO).

For those familiar with CSGO, figuring out how to switch to Valorant's economy is easy. However, for newcomers, it can be a bit tricky to manage your team's money. While breaking heads is important, understanding how Valorant's economic system works can help you get ahead.

Why is money important in Valorant?

Valorant's in-game currency, credits, plays an important role in the player's success. Credits are earned in-game and used to purchase necessary items such as weapons and armor. Valorant Agents also have unique abilities that can be purchased. This means that, unlike Overwatch, an agent's kit isn't immediately available for use, and abilities don't work on cooldown (except for the agent's "subscribe ability"). The player has to manage his credits properly in order to make full use of his agent.

Also, tracking the enemy's economy allows the player to predict what purchases their team has. The developers of Valorant have made tracking the enemy economy relatively easy. Opening the game leaderboard shows the credits all players have before purchasing items.

Rival teams can see each other's economy at the start of each round.

The team has to balance the economy as a whole. When all players on one side have the same money, constant buying is encouraged. This means that no player has more or less than another, and the risk of a partner not being able to buy in important rounds is reduced.

Valorant Purchase Menu During Gun Rounds

At the beginning of each gun round, players have 800 credits in the bank by default. This is enough for a player to purchase half armor (400 credits) and an upgraded pistol, or half armor with abilities, or an upgraded pistol and abilities. After each round, players receive a bonus for losing or winning. There is also a 200 credit kill reward. Rewards for kills are not dependent on weapon selection like in CSGO; unfortunately, a backstab attempt will not earn extra credits.

  • Credits per death: 200 credits
  • Bonus for losing the first round: 1.900 credits
  • Maximum round loss bonus: 2900 credits
  • Bonus for winning the round: 3000 credits

Credit rules everything around me

Now that you have a better understanding of how the economy works in Valorant, you can get down to business.
