The keyboard is an important component of the computer, by using it, you can perform different functions and operations on it. Therefore, it is important to understand the different Keyboard Parts and explain their functions in detail.
Keyboard Parts
The keyboard is divided into six (6) fundamental parts, these portions have different functions on their keys and it is important to understand each part of it. These divisions of the keyboard are: function keys, the alphanumeric or writing, scroll, numeric keyboard, control and special keys.
Function keys
In computing, the function keys are the buttons on the first row of the computer keyboard, which can be programmed so that the operating system, programs or specific applications perform certain operations.
On many computers, certain function keys have a set purpose at startup. Function keys usually start with "Escape" or Esc to generate a short sequence of characters, which send a sequence of typing interpreted by the operating system and/or some programs to start a predetermined routine or task.
On a standard computer keyboard, the keys are usually marked with an F followed by a number. On some models, small text or icons can be added that describe their default effects.
Common Uses of Computer Keyboards
These keys (F1 through F12) are used as shortcuts for faster access to certain functions assigned by different programs. Generally, the F1 button is associated with the help provided by the various files, that is, pressing this key can open the help screen of the program currently in use. The following are just a few examples of default applications running function keys in different programs where there is a tendency to standardize applications on some keys:
- F1: minutes and help procedures in most programs (such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel). In Firefox, it will take you to Mozilla's online help page.
- F2: changes the name of the chosen file, shortcut or folder, in turn changes to the search option and can also extend the game online. Lastly, enter or exit ortho mode in AutoCAD.
- F3: starts looking in the directory where the user is located.
- F4: Extend the “Go” menu of the toolbar from one folder to another and search the address bar list in Windows explorer and other file managers.
- F5: Renews the attachment of the chosen window. It also performs "find and replace" in Microsoft Word, "go to" in Microsoft Excel, and changes the review plane in AutoCAD.
- F6: move through the abstracts of a window or desktop screen and transforms the state of the coordinate system in AutoCAD.
- F7: begins the grammar and spell check of texts in Microsoft Word and Excel, unlike in AutoCAD it places or removes the reference grid. In Firefox, delegate navigation by cursor or by caret.
- F8: it works to start the computer in safe mode.
- F9: calculates the field codes in Microsoft Word and in Excel recalculates the formulas. It also starts a presentation in Corel Draw, similar to those in PowerPoint, and in AutoCAD, turns snapping mode on or off.
- F10: activates the menu bar in the active program and in the AutoCAD program, enters or leaves polar coordinate mode.
- F11: enables full-screen mode for various web browsers, games and applications, instead of Microsoft Excel, it displays the Design window in the graphics insertion part.
- F12: The "Save As" window opens in Microsoft Word and Excel. In Chrome, open developer tools.
Alphanumeric or Writing Keyboard
The alphanumeric keyboard is similar to the keyboard of a typewriter, it also consists of approximately 57 keys, with all the letters (from A to Z), has ten (10) decimal numbers (from 0 to 9) and all the signs punctuation, accent, special or character keys and a space bar. It conquers the central part of the keyboard and consists of two types of keys that are the typing key and the command keys.
The writing keys are those convenient for the computer that consist of twenty-eight (28) letters, ten (10) numbers, punctuation marks, accent marks, question marks, exclamation marks, among others.
Those corresponding to numbers and symbols have two functions, and in some cases they can even have up to three. They are used to write symbols such as letters, numbers, emblems, and in some cases, they can also be used in conjunction with programs, which means that by touching one of them plus one of the command keys, special functions can be activated.
In the double keys that have characters, the symbol that is written below is the one that is acquired by pressing the key, while the upper one is activated by pressing the (Shift) key, which is a key that has an arrow drawn pointing upwards. On those with a third function, the symbol appears when you press the ALT GR key and then press the key
Sticky and Scroll Buttons
These keys are the ones used to move through files, documents, online pages and modify some texts. Among them we have Insert, Del, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Print Screen/SysRequest, Scroll Lock/ON-OFF, Pause/Break and the arrow keys that are represented by arrows.
With the Print Screen key, located in the part of the special keys, you can take screenshots and thus publish or refer to other images of what you are observing on the screen or monitor of your computer.
Keys or Numeric Keypad
It works to integrate numerical data quickly. The keys and symbols are associated with the same representation as they are displayed on calculators, it has seventeen (17) keys in total, it contains the ten (10) decimal digits from (0 to 9) and it can perform the most common mathematical operations such as add, subtract, multiply and divide.
The key highlighted in this section is "Bloq NUM", which can activate the use of the number keys, so you must keep it open when you want to use it; if it is closed, the number keys will be locked and cannot be used.
Ctrl key
It is a modifier key, when pressed together with another key, it performs a special operation. For example: «Ctrl + Alt + Del». Like the Shift key, the Control key has almost no function when used alone, such as showing the position of the pointer in the Microsoft Windows operating system. The control button is located in the lower left corner on most keyboards and tends to symbolize as Ctrl or are sometimes used in their term Control o ctl. Among some commands that we can execute with this key are the following:
- Ctrl+B: allows searching for a text, title and pages of some content.
- Ctrl+C: allows you to copy information or resources on your computer.
- Ctl+F: it works to open the search engine in the web page that we are reading and in Word it makes tabulations in any paragraph that you prefer from the second line.
- Ctrl+J: operation to place the text aligned to the left or justified and in Excel completely erases the changes made in the cell.
- Ctrl + P: works by displaying a print preview of the document currently being edited.
- Ctl+S: allows you to underline the document.
- Ctrl+V: executes the paste function previously copied.
- Ctrl+X: in Excel it cuts the information and you can place it in the cell you prefer to paste it.
- Ctl+Z: undo the current operation.
Special Function Keys
Some of the keys that we are going to study do not perform any function by themselves, but in combination with others they do. For them to perform their function, we must keep them pressed, before pressing the substitute key.
Tabulator: The Tab key on our computer keyboard has many uses. One of the most common uses is when we use a word processor, we can press this key to insert tab characters or move the paragraph to the right.
But the fact is that the Tab key can be used for more functions, including the following options: you can move between different optional elements in the dialog box, you can switch between tabs in the web browser, and you can even use keyboard shortcuts.
Caps Lock or Caps Lock: It is a button on the computer keyboard, which when pressed activates the way in which the letters are displayed in uppercase by default, and when the key is pressed again, it is displayed in lowercase.
Enter: The Enter key (also known as the Enter key or Enter key) allows you to execute a previously typed command when pressed or enter numeric data after typing.

They are very practical keyboards because they will not cause difficulties when transporting them from one place to another or using them in areas with liquids because they have support.
Wireless
This is a type of keyboard that does not need to be connected by a cable. They have built-in batteries, so no current is required for them to work. The wireless keyboard works by detecting the signal from the keyboard so that it can be transmitted to the computer and start using it.
It is necessary to remember that, since its operation is based on signals, it can be interfered with by other devices that work in the same way, which can cause slower use or errors when using your keys, which can be of this type. The equipment is considered disadvantaged, so it is very important to take this into account.
Ergonomic
This type of keyboard provides comfortable operation for the user, because it is displayed at an angle and the position of use allows the arm to relax. Those who frequently use such components are recommended to provide assistance and prevent fatigue caused by overuse.
